Great book about Scotland Yard's most successful siege

I have written a foreword for this book. It is a great explanation of the run-up to the Balcombe Street siege, containing much detail and background. I was a serving police officer in London at the time, and remember only too well the atmosphere that these terrorists created. The operation that led to the terrorists being chased was to some extent an act of faith by the Metropolitan Police, but also a stirring tale of great bravery and good fortune. The siege itself was a professionally conducted operation when the outcome was really uncertain. It took place before other events like the sieges at the Iranian Embassy and Libyan Peoples Bureau rather overshadowed what had gone on before, notwithstanding that the Balcombe Street siege was arguably the most successful high profile siege ever conducted by Scotland Yard. So this book is about an important event in policing history, is well written, and can be thoroughly recommended.

This needs to be made into a major movie!!

This is quite a book....one of the best, fair minded, and logical explanations of the Irish "troubles" I've ever read. Fascinating story. I can't recall of there ever being a situation where an author captured both sides of a terrorist event, and still also included the innocent bystanders & victims.
Moysey writes with clarity and wit!

A must read!!!

Having recently finished the book, this gave me an entirely different perspective of the entire "troubles" that has plagued the UK. Dr Moysey's writing style puts you right into the thick of the hunt for the bombing suspects. Growing up in New England, I recall a lot of pro IRA propaganda in Boston during the 70s and 80s. Lots of money being sent overseas. Here, we were, of course, sheltered from the grim reality of the struggles over there, and he points out this in the book as well.
The book, far from being a "good guy/bad guy" writing style, goes into some detail as to why the struggle existed, what key factions were involved, why the IRA chose the path they did. It makes for an interesting story, as you can honestly, plainly see the story from both sides. You come not to hate the IRA members doing the bombings-you can understand their politics behind it. He fleshes them out as human beings-same as everyone else.
I highly suggest that, if you are an avid reader of media about this time period in British history, you pick this book up. Through Dr. Moysey's interviews, review of evidence collected during the standoff, visits to the major sites involved, as well as his personal background, you have a (true) tale of one of the most famous hostage negotiations during the entire IRA troubles. Totally worth reading!!!
