Dr. Mary Jane Hodges Vance Born in Manila, Philippines, the author sailed through enemy waters, after liberation in 1945, while atom bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Arriving in San Francisco on August 13, 1945, her family survivied the worst riot in that city's history, when Prresident Truman announced Japan's surrender the next day. A nationally recognized author, educator, and Susan's aunt, Dr. Vance has three other books on Amazon. com.

I have had the honor of knowing both the author Dr. Mary Jane Vance and Susan Reynolds. As many years as I had known Susan and her father Joe the information in this compelling book served to educate me even further. I am even more impressed with this remarkable young lady after reading "If You Knew Susan". I found out so many things I did not know about this wonderful family even living two door down from them for many years. Every young girl should read this book for strength and inspiration on how to have fun in everything you do even when faced with disappointment. I wish I had known her better.

I feel honored to have personally known this outstanding young lady.. She set lofty goals for her life and did not let circumstances that she encountered get her down. I am so proud of Dr. Mary Jane Hodges Vance, my sister, for writing this book which added to my appreciation of Susan and her family.

Very uplifting and inspiring biography which captures the spirit of Susan Jo Reynolds. I love how the author turned a tragic event into an inspirational story by lifting up the goals, achievements and dreams of her very dedicated and talented niece.
