Born into Islam, author Showkat Alborzi was an inquisitive young girl who longed to know her creator, her purpose in this world, and the meaning of life. In 1979, the Islamic revolution shook Iran and the country plunged into 7th century darkness. She fled to the United States. Years later, God revealed Himself again to her, this time through a poem about the abortion she had years ago. God brought to light her hidden secret and guilt. Although, Jesus was never more than a prophet for her, now she knew He was the true God and that He was ready to forgive her if only she was ready to be forgiven. That was the moment she believed.

Spectacular and Eye Opening Book

I had this book passed on to my by a member of my church. It was read by many people in my congergation before me and after hearing numerous great comments about it, I decided to dedicate a weekend all to myself and read it. I can truely say this was such a moving and eye opening book for me. The author, Dr. Alborzi had such an amazing testimony on how she came to know Christ that it brought me to tears. All the hardships, pain and suffering she went through. Then to top that off, going against the grain in a culture and society were that type of behavior is concidered unacceptable and untolarable by even extreme measures. But the writer was so eager and hungry for "the truth" in seeking out Jesus and turning her whole life to Him, that in turn, He held her hand through the hardships and showered her with blessings thoughout her life. The book also taught and showed me the great lengths our heavanly Father will go through to be spiritually and eternally united with a child of His, especially when we seek Him. Christ and His love never fails. Thank you Dr. Alborzi for sharing your testimony and educating me and all your readers on different religions and the deceit that comes with them. And teaching us how we can all identify the truth, which can only be found in Christ, like in John 14:6 where it says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me". Beautiful!!!!

A heart for God

Dr. Alborzi's book was a book of encouragement and love. It was very helpful to me to read the testimony of Dr. Alborzi's life in Iran. Though much of her early life made me feel sad, it also made me feel joyful to see how glorious our God is. When there is no one to share the gospel message in closed countries, God speaks through dreams, visions,etc. It is a testimony to how important it is to pray for the people in these countries that they might have the freedom of religion that we enjoy in the USA. Because Dr Alborzi is now a citizen of a free country, she is able read both the Bible and qu'ran and contrast the teachings of both books. The contrasts made between God and Allah show who the one true God is. I appreciate all the detailed research that Dr Alborzi shared. Her love for God and the desire for all who do not know him were so apparent throughout the book. I look forward to reading her second book.

A very enriching book!

This book was a joy to read. Dr. Alborzi brings the reader right along beside her as she tells her life story. Along the way she converts from Islam to Christianity. She does a wonderful job comparing the 2 religions. The book is easy to read and very personable. I highly recommend it to others. May God continue to bless Dr. Alborzi and that she continues to bless others with her story. Her book was a blessing to me and my wife. Thank you!

My newest book review: "Break Out: A Criminal's Journey to Eternal Freedom"
I was familiar with some of Jed's story before I read the book, having walked the streets of Daytona with him when his ministry sponsored Motel Church a few years ago. But I especially loved how the story ended in "Break Out: A Criminal's Journey to Eternal Freedom" by Jed G. Lindstrom and Larry J Leech II. One of the most beautiful and profound statements he made in the book was this: “I know every precious life is immeasurably valuable. The addict in a mansion and the broken soul under a bridge are comparable in the eyes of God. He has no favorites. God loves us all too much for us to be thrown away by any other person. What man throws away God raise up to a living testimony of His power and love.”
Someone once said to me when I told them about Jed and Lets Go Ministry, “His story is just like the story of hundreds of addicts.” I didn’t have a good answer for them then, but now after reading the book, I do. I say Jed and the power of the Holy Spirit working in this man’s life makes his story shine. And isn’t that what this world with the darkness and pain that is all around us needs? A shining light to help lead us?
Another person that met Jed said “I knew I wanted to get to know this man because something was shining from him.” I recently learned that when he first came into our town he made sandwiches and gave them out to the poor. To me, that is a beautiful act of worship to the Lord, as in Matthew 25:40: “And the King will answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.”
There’s a reason that everyone that meets him wants to book him to speak. Larry J Leech II has beautifully crafted this story in his own unique and awesome way.
You’ll meet Jed through the words of this book and find out that his whole family shines! The pictures were an added bonus to getting to know this family.
I so related to Jed’s miracle of a reunion in chapter nine, “RESTORATION” and Reunion Tower was the perfect site for that celebration. I’m very proud of his stand with this situation and Erica, his wife is one of the most supportive women I’ve ever met.
This book is easy to read, keeps your attention and will be a blessing to many families. The “Seven Basic Steps to Follow Jesus” at the end will help those who are struggling. Read this book then pass it along. That’s what I’m doing!

Never Give Up

There are many messages in this book, but as a mother and grandmother the one that shouted to me was NEVER GIVE UP. In the darkest times, there is still hope. Never give up on yourself. Never give up on your kids. Never give up on prayer. Never give up on God. Jed’s mother never gave up on him and she never stopped praying.
Jed was a young man adrift in a dark world of drugs and the crime that goes along with supporting the habit. Like many addicts he was caught in the destructive vicious cycle of using and dealing. After ten years of this lifestyle, he was tired, he was lost . . . and he was ready to change.
As is the usual result of this way of life, more than once Jed ended up in prison. It was here, at his lowest point, God came to meet him and led him into a life-changing experience with the Holy Spirit. In his words, “In my cell I experienced the real feeling of a person wrapping their arms around me.” Alone in that cell, he surrendered his life to Christ and the result is an amazing testament of God’s glorious grace and consummate love.
Jed’s is a story of surrender, repentance, restoration and reconciliation. It is a story of healing, hope, and the power of prayer. This book is for you if you, a family member (especially a child) or a friend is dealing with addiction or any situation that seems hopeless. It isn’t.

You won't be able to put this book down!

This story is so inspirational it really needs to be read and shared with everyone. We all go through difficult times and challenges where it can feel like we are alone but once you accept Jesus as your Saviour you will never feel alone again. Reading Jed's story reminds us to never give up on anyone no matter how bad the situation is. Jed's tragic beginning will bring you to tears but the transformation of his life will inspire you. This book is a wonderful gift to give to everyone you know!

So begins a fast-paced autobiography of a young man who would eventually become a U.S. Navy SEAL. A product of a dysfunctional family (his parents had a difficult marriage, and his father was physically abusive), Webb tells his life's story. His parents kept their often-rambunctious son out of trouble by encouraging him to get involved with athletics. That came to an abrupt end when the boy was diagnosed with Osgood-Schlatter disease, which is caused by overtraining, resulting in a painful lump below the kneecap. Braces were put on his knees in order to give them a chance to grow properly. By age 13, Webb was working on a dive boat. About the Author

Brandon Webb is a former U.S. Navy SEAL; his last assignment with the SEALs was Course Manager for the elite SEAL Sniper Course, where he was instrumental in developing new curricula that trained some of the most accomplished snipers of the twenty-first century. Webb has received numerous distinguished service awards, including the Presidential Unit Citation and the Navy Commendation Medal with a "V" for "Valor," for his platoon's deployment to Afghanistan following the September 11 attacks. Great book for younger audiences interested in the U.S. Navy SEALS. as told by an actual SEAL

Brandon produces a great book that will appeal to younger audiences in a direct straight forward way. The making of a U.S. Navy seal as told by the person who actually lived it and succeeded, not by a Hollywood narrator. If you want a book for a youngster that might be interested in serving in the U.S. Navy or any branch of the Military this book is it. Even if they don't serve they can see an example of what happens when you just keep pressing forward towards a goal no matter how hard it gets

an engrossing read

For most of us, committing our life histories to a written record wouldn’t create much readership outside of our immediate families until the passage of centuries rendered them of archeologic interest. Philip Nelson’s book is the exception. It is one of those written conversations that keeps you anchored to your easy chair. Dr. Nelson has the gift of spinning his tales to heighten the drama and deliver the humor. Along the way he links his biographical vignettes to the events of 20th century history, giving those events an emotional dimension – like the gassing of his father, George Peter Nelson, in the trenches of World War I and its impact on the 8-year old son when pneumonia overwhelms his father’s frail lungs 18 years later.

Nelson writes of the importance of a mentor for a fatherless boy, in his case, the local doctor who attended the family. “Doc” kindled Philip’s interest in medicine, spending hours with him talking about anatomy, physiology, and pathology.

The book begins with the risk-taking ancestors of Nelson family tree who set sail from England to establish a new colony in 1620 and a few generations later in 1776 sign a treasonous declaration of independence from the home country. These heroes of America’s beginnings are balanced out by a greatgranny who was an accused witch, done in by false witness, and convicted and hung in 1653 in Fairfield, CT. By the 20th century, the story centers on the successful family business Crofutt &Knapp Hat Corporation in Connecticut, which carries the Nelsons through the Depression, but doesn’t leave them trust funds to finance their future.

The two Nelson sons look to ways to finance their education. For Philip a full scholarship to the University of Pennsylvania wins out over a partial scholarship to Harvard. [Fortunately Penn was his preference.] When he chooses medical school at Penn, tuition and living expenses become a stumbling block. Individuals who have watched him mature quietly step forward with the monetary gifts and loans that eliminate finances as a factor at this critical crossroad. Philip responds to their generosity with a work ethic that propels him to salutatorian of his class. After a year of rotating internship, a form of purgatory that has happily faded from the postgraduate education landscape, Dr. Nelson trains in obstetrics and gynecology, setting the stage for the second half of the book.

The remaining vignettes are tales from his years of ObGyn practice followed by a switch to treating the misunderstood patients with chronic fatigue syndrome, including his wife, and a retirement vocation as a detail-capturing floral photographer in Sarasota, Florida. He shines a light on the demands of his surgical specialty with its rapidly changing clinical advances coexisting in a world of contraception politics and medical economics. This section includes some of the most fascinating reading including a chapter on a father who survived polio and gave blood to his daughter, desperately hoping to give her passive immunity against the scourge of summer – poliomyelitis. Unknowingly, he caused her Rh- red blood cells to develop antibodies to her future fetuses' Rh+ cells resulting in stillborn children and fetuses lost to hydrops fetalis.

Like all engrossing reads this one left me wanting more, especially his forays into chronic fatigue syndrome.

A pleasure to read

A delightful tale of a varied life, chronological but concentrating on memorable events and people.
I laughed at times and smiled at awakened memories: popping the color capsule and kneading the plastic
bag to make the white margarine turn yellow, for instance. He was interested in meeting the landlords who
had "New Yorker" magazines in their hallway which reminded me of a friend who judged nursing homes by
the magazines in the lobby. In later years Dr. Nelson expanded his practice for patients with Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome, which his wife developed and then founded a support group. He went further in photographing
6800 plants in Sarasota's Selby Gardens, which the Smithsonian is now licensed to use. Altogether a
pleasure to read.

Excellent book!

Dr. Nelson is a master storyteller and an excellent writer. I especially enjoyed his self-depricating sense of humor. His uncanny ability to recall events in great detail is amazing. As I read his book, I could actually visualize each situation--I felt like I was watching a movie. I don't believe many writers have the ability to make the reader feel as if he or she is part of the scene. I highly recommend this book!

Really helpful summary and election analysis

This book delivered all the main points of Art of the Deal in a fraction of the time. Unlike any other summary I've read, it also applies the principles of his book to the election of 2016. Really interesting analysis and a great summary.

Donald Trump on protester? Narrator! 'I'd like to punch him in the face'

It was very difficult to get past the narrator blithely pronouncing "tome" as "tomé" – but he can't even pronounce Donald, which is going to make it a bit of an ordeal to get through the thing. Daaaahnald. My God.

He stumbles over words he doesn't mispronounce.

If you value your sanity (or your iPhone, or whatever you're listening to this on) I would strongly suggest avoiding this abomination, if you don't want to throw your iPhone out the window, which you will inevitably do if you subject your ears to this grating, horrific, worse-than-fingernails-on-a-blackboard, noise.

Summary of Trump's ideas and a presidential evaluation.

This is a summary of trumps book "The Art of the Deal." Included after the summary of each chapter is the authors estimation of how Trumps philosophy of deal making will apply to the actions he will take as a U. S. President. These are all positive comments about Trump and his possible future presidency. I don't recall the author commenting about any of the negative comments that abound in the regular news broadcasts concerning Trump. I don't think Trump had any hand in the making or the distributing of this book which I was given to read for free on my Kindle White.

What a truly wonderful and at times heart wrenching story

What a truly wonderful and at times heart wrenching story. Follow the author "Mieke" through years of innocence, peace, and security in the pastures and waterways of Holland; and the sudden and breathtaking abruptness when this idealic world is torn away with the invasion of Germany. This is definitely a page turner as Mary first provides a culturally rich narrative picture of early 1900's Holland traditions surviving hundreds of years of neighboring invasions, the transitions the Dutch were forced to accommodate with German occupation, and how the everyday families survived and endured the bleakest of human history.
This is a must read. Dr. Sanderson 2/2/2016
