If you drive A semi truck - You NEED this book!

If you drive a semi in the US and need to park over night, you NEED this book. Has more/ better info than the trucker apps(like how many spots, amenities, if the lots paved!). If its in the book, I know the place exists- unlike the phone apps. Works when don't have internet. I drive In VERY rural Midwest - this is THE most helpful means of finding a truck stop. Note: unfortunately, it does not include info on rest stops. Get this and the the pocket guide and your all set.

Guideline for young optimistic entrepeneurs.

From reading this book I can tell the author fully believes in what he says in his works.

This book contains short life stories of Virgin owner Richard Bransom, there are many things that can be said about him and this book covers 10 essential stories which alongside the authors interpretation of each should give sound, helpful advice for anyone looking for it.

The book is short, should take an average reader around 20 minutes to finish.

The reason I gave it 4/5 stars is because, I believe the author's advice is too optimistic in some of the mantras, like as if he didn't consider that some of the advice is a bit farfetched for some people in different economic classes, then again Richard is kind of adventurous and it rubbed off on the author.

Nice read for before going to bed, and for those young entrepeneurs.

You Need to Know This

This book was recommended by a friend. I was kind of annoyed to have to read it. Days later when I was accepting a two month freelance contract I used a recommendation to simply ask for something more. The "theory" is you might just get it. I already had the contract but I simply asked if they could bump it up to the next pay grade. She looked into it and voila! My $7.00 book made me another $2,500 in the same week I got it. I wouldn't have asked had I not been reading the book that week, I hadn't even finished it.
I implemented the 60 sell and other techniques to get other job offers as well. The book is very practical in telling you how to prepare as well as telling you what to avoid like the plague. It all seems like common sense after you read it but I guess common sense goes out the window in job interviews. I wish I had this book when I was still at university; it would have helped me from the beginning.
You only have a few seconds to make a great impression. I highly recommend this book.

It just works

I purchased an older edition before having an interview with an employer located in the one place in the country I had been wanting to move to for years.

I used the techniques explained in this book. The series of same-day interviews with the different panels went great. By pure chance I was the last person they interviewed that day, they asked me to step outside for a couple of minutes, they called me back and I was offered the job on the spot.

I have given this book to a couple of friends who were also interviewing for jobs. They both got the jobs they interviewed for.

I am not claiming that this book is magical, but it definitely teaches you how to interview correctly.

Great book if you are unemployed!

This book came recommended to me by a career transistion coach after I found myself unexpectantly unemployed. I haven't had to interview in over 20 years and felt rusty. It was easy to read and would give candidates a leg up on difficult interview questions. I loved that it told you exactly what to say. And, it has you prepare your 60 second commercial to repeat several times during the interview process. It is highly recommended for those out there job searching that don't have their interview skills up to date.

There is a saying that goes, "It's not the destination but the journey." What a journey Cleaster has taken! From her farm town in Alabama to an urban Midwest city to the hills of South Africa to the monuments of Washington DC to the white sand beaches of South Florida, Cleaster has lived an exceptionally busy life serving her community, her family, and God.

One Peanut at a Time is an inspiring memoir that chronicles one woman's life of self-sacrifice, commitment, hardship, success, and deep-rooted passion. When most would have given up, Cleaster Mim's endured.

In her writing, she shares childhood stories that paint a picture of life on a black-owned sharecropping farm as well as the discriminatory practices of the South. She tells of how she worked alongside German prisoners in Alabama who were treated more favorably than her. She nostalgically reflects on how black families in her community would help each other without hesitation and would come together to support one another with chores, farming, financial woes, and child rearing. The experiences of her youth influenced her as an adult where she worked a variety of jobs before becoming a successful educator, wife, and mother.

The hardships she endured while pouring her heart and soul into making a difference in the community through education (both inside and outside the classroom) were eye-opening and heartbreaking. In the end, however, she was able to recognize when it was time to move on to a new chapter in her life.

From a historical perspective, One Peanut at a Time gives us insight into the agrarian South of the 1930s and 1940s and the struggles of blacks in Midwest and Northern urban areas pre and post civil rights era. It highlights the perils of systemic racism within our educational system and corporate America and tells the story of how Cleaster worked tirelessly to educate our youth to overcome such challenges. Cleaster bravely takes us on her personal 80 year journey of life through this memoir.

About the Author
Mark Monmonier pursued a vigorous career in cartographic scholarship, with faculty appointments at the University of Rhode Island, the State University of New York at Albany, and Syracuse University, where he was appointed associate professor in 1973 and promoted to professor in 1979 and distinguished professor in 1998. Electronic strategies for map design and analysis dominated his research through the mid-1990s. He published the first general textbook on computer-aided mapping and made innovative contributions to interactive statistical graphics. An early invention now known as the Monmonier Algorithm became an important research tool for geographic studies in linguistics and genetics. An emerging curiosity about the intersection of mapping and public policy led to Technological Transition in Cartography (1985) and Spying with Maps (2002), and a growing interest in origins inspired focused histories like Air Apparent: How Meteorologists Learned to Map, Predict, and Dramatize Weather (1999) and Rhumb Lines and Map Wars: A Social History of the Mercator Projection (2004). Recognition includes an Association of American Geographers Media Achievement Award (2000), the American Geographical Society’s O. M. Miller Medal (2001), and the German Cartographic Society’s Mercator Medal (2009). He continues an active life of scholarship, currently focused on patented cartographic inventions and research design in geography.

A great read!

Professor Monmonier's books are always a good read. This is no different except he tackles his own experiences across an academic career in cartography instead of his normal treatment of interesting cartographic subjects. Academics will empathize and identify with the stories of teaching, research and writing; and the trials and tribulations of funding, tenure and publishing. The writing is as well crafted as you'd expect and for the lay reader there is also much to enjoy. It provides an insight into the life of an academic but don't imagine this is a dry treatment of experience. There's copious stories, recollections and personal insight as well as some candid observations. It's just a great read!

FROM A CHILD'S POINT OF VIEW

Military life can be difficult for any family, especially the children. This is a coming of age story. When you're young sometimes you don't remember things as clearly, but the author seems to recall her experiences, short though they may have been, with ease. She was the oldest of seven children. Everyone knows that military life doesn't leave you in one place for too long. Many friends made and left behind. Many new towns to adjust to along with school after school. Not remaining in one place for too long. The author has described her characters so you almost feel you know them. As she is growing up, her experiences became learning experiences, explained by her parents. The author wrote a compelling story of her experience of growing up military as a CHILD OF THE BLUE. This book isn't very long but you will be attached to each page as you turn it. I finished the book in one evening. Living in an Air Force family, her adventures have taken across the land and into Europe. This memoir is from a child's point of view which is usually a little more accurate at times than an adult. It's interesting because they see things as they are, not as they want them to be. Since this story only goes through Ms. Ryan's 16th birthday, will we have the honor of continuing her adventures in another book? Hopefully! You might want to grab a copy and you and your friends can sit around the fire one snowy night and exchange childhood memories.

Great conversational book on life and times of an airforce brat

I bought this through iBooks with the intention of reading it on an upcoming trip. I started reading it and wound up finishing it in two sittings. Ms. Ryan has lived an extraordinary life. Her adventures as an Air Force brat have taken her across the country and the big pond to Europe. It's interesting to read recollections of that era from a child's point of view, as her father flew in several missions we only read about in the papers.

This is a very conversational book. It starts out a little rough, but the story, the humor and the amazing tale will draw you in. It feels like you are sitting on a patio with a dear friend, sharing a glass of wine and swapping childhood tales. It stops around Ms. Ryan's 16th birthday, so one wonders about "the rest of the story." I hope she writes a sequel.

Cross Generational Read

A compelling coming of age story against the backdrop of military life and a burgeoning family, richly worded Child of the Blue immediately draws one in. Though memories as a toddler for most of us are vague, only punctuated by larger experiences, Ms. Ryan has uncanny recall of her abbreviated experiences as the first of seven children. After the next few children and as many moves, the pace picks up as we follow her youthfully forged friendships won and then at times agonizingly lost as the family is uprooted. They are colored with diverse characters, delightful escapades, tomboyish adventures, secrets and acquired bits of wisdom. Ms. Ryan's childhood education is intelligently bolstered by parents who translate each experience (that they are aware off!) into a teachable moment. Military locales have their own slice of history and knowledge of them seems relished by the voracious learner that the author is. Indeed, the reader learns as well. Though not a military brat in the true sense of the words, for myself as the daughter of a WWII Naval officer, Child of the Blue at times evoked jealousy for not having experienced the global and domestic family moves and unique and lovingly cultivated friendships Ms. Ryan so poignantly chronicles growing up military.

Deadly Voices equals Deadly People

He’s back. Author Chris Swinney’s newest True Crime book has hit the shelves running. For those of us that follow the true crime book series this has to be right up there. Well researched, well written and easy to follow. Herbert Mullin is a sick individual and C.L. Swinney has brought that out in a quick read book that details start to finish Mullin’s life with his drugs and voices that lead the way. I really like when Chris can interject his real life police experiences into the narrative. I particularly liked the conclusion of the book. The author with all his police experience can explain what life behind bars is for the criminals while still tying up the life of Herbert Mullin. I am glad Herbert Mullin won't be listening to voices from outside prison for a VERY long time.

Another great true crime book!

Another great true crime book by C. L. Swinney! His law enforcement background helps people like me understand our judicial system and the processes of our legal system. This book shows how a “normal” person can snap and become a serial killer. The world is a safer place with him in prison. I’m looking forward to more books by C. L. Swinney. I have also enjoyed his fiction Bill Dix series.

Remember the "earthquake killer"?

You probably heard about the guy who killed people to prevent an earthquake in California. This is his story.

Herbert Mullin lost his best friend to a car accident in high school. In his grief, he got involved in drugs. It is speculated that the drugs triggered his schizophrenia and Herbert changed, in fact, became unrecognizable to his family and friends.

The voices in his head were constant and controlling. He came to believe that humans had to be sacrificed to prevent a major earthquake which would destroy California. He insisted that the voices chose the victims who were to be sacrificed and told him to kill them.

Chris Swinney has given us the complete story in understandable form. He explains the process that changed a grieving teenager into a serial killer.
