Amazing origin stories, and tales of life on the cutting edge by those who share so much with us every day.

A wonderful, human portrait of some of the most prominent faces of modern culture, technology news, science fiction & fantasy literature, cutting edge comedy, Internet video, podcasting & entertainment. This is a great book for anyone who is already a longtime fan of these leaders, or who is eager to discover them anew. You'll learn how they're changing our ideas about what we create and what we consume in all the facets of our modern lives.
The best aspect is learning the history of how they became the beloved geeks we have gotten to know through our screens and headphones. From the pioneering veterans like Om Malek and Leo Laporte, to today's most charismatic, energetic and deeply intelligent stars like Lisa Bettany, Veronica Belmont and Tom Merritt.
There's a heartwarming element to each of these well researched and delightfully written meetups: you recognize some of yourself in all of them. What separates these pioneers of what some call the "new media" from the ways of old is their honesty, their humility, and their unabashed joy about being able to connect to you, their audience.
Many of us grew up with them, many of us enjoy their work on a daily, or even way more than daily basis (thank you, Twitter!) and we may feel at times like we know them, because they share so much... but in this book they reveal so much more. Gilpin & Heiner are clearly fellow travelers, and while the book is called Follow The Geeks, after reading it we feel like we've been alongside them and gotten to really know them. And for those in the reading audience who aspire to become leaders and communicators of the next generation of passionate geeks (you know who you are) there is much advice and wisdom here.

Learned so many new things about people I had already been following like Baratunde and Om Malik.
There are far too few great storytellers in the world, and Lyndsey and Jason are two of them.
The concept, distribution, funding, and roll out of this book is innovative. But, on its own, FTG is fantastic...highly recommend!
