About the Author
Laura Vivian lives in the same small town that she describes in This Should Never Have Happened. Laura was employed at a large pharmaceutical company for nearly thirty years. During that time, she also created a successful event planning business which allowed her to specialize in her passion, wedding coordination. Now enjoying her retirement, Laura's favorite activity is cooking Sunday dinners to share with the loves of her life - her husband of forty-two years, two grown children, son-in-law and two young grandchildren.

This book is a heart wrenching look into what goes on when a person is being sexually, physically, and mentally abused. While describing graphic scenes of repressed memories the author describes her life and the things she must do to survive horrific abuse. One of these survival skills is dissociation where a person's mind unconsciously places itself separately from the abuse. While the abuse goes on, the person is not aware of it. These repressed memories are there under the surface and still affect the author's life as she struggles to make meaning of the world around her. It all comes to a head after her father, the perpetrator of her abuse, dies and all the unthinkable memories come rushing to the surface. Once you see inside this woman's life, this is a book you will not soon forget. This book is a must read. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has been abused and also for everyone else so that they may be on the lookout for anyone who may be living such a nightmare. For abuse, while taken more seriously now than in the seventies when this author grew up, still happens today where family "secrets" destroy lives and cause dysfunction to continue through many more generations. If this book can help even one person stop this terrible cycle from being repeated then what this author and her siblings went through will not be in vain.

Amazing story of gut-wrenching truths. This sequence of true life events are difficult to fathom; an important read for anyone struggling with abuse. This author is brave beyond measure. Kudos on bringing this story to light for the benefit of others who need a voice.

The author is an amazing,brave women. I couldn't put the book down and read it in less than 24 hours and I shed a lot of tears. This is a book everyone should read. I pray for healing for this family.
