About the Author
Marisa Readus and Alisha Readus are identical twin sisters originally from Alabama and now living in Dallas, Texas. Despite a good start in life their circumstances changed and so did they. The sisters were influenced by the fast life, and they did everything they thought they could get away with. It wasn’t long before their crimes landed them behind bars. . . facing identical sentences. After serving their time, the sisters had to regain their children and rebuild their lives. Today Marisa and Alisha are the founders of “Double Impact” Youth Empowerment and Leadership, which provide educational and life skills training to at-risk youth, detention centers, school seminars, and motivational speaking to an array of organizations/companies. Their biggest desire is to empower youth with “the power of choice and power of change” through their story.

Captivating book with inspiring hope

Twin sisters Alisha and Marisa Readus have survived their tumultuous journey and humbled themselves to share with the public a true story of their lives. Identical twins. Nearly identical crimes. Each suffering from wrong choices they now presently admit to. If you enjoyed memoirs filled with drama and hope this book will fit the bill. As each told her story beginning at ages 18, I could sense for each sister the longing in their heart for true love and understanding.
Both would find themselves in the arms of men that either abused them, were already married, or neglected to provide materially and/or emotionally. They candidly share their "wild side" and how they and their significant other's behaviors would burn family bridges resulting in them living in a shelter or facing homelessness. This is a book where the sowing and reaping principal is demonstrated. While trapped in an unhealthy and dangerous lifestyle, Alisha reflects on how the voice of God would prompt her yet she would ignore the warning signs.
The drive for lust and money led the sisters to commit a felony that would place them behind bars. Here is the sample excerpt of Alisha who is pregnant with her third child in a shelter three weeks before entering prison. "This was not a place that I wanted to be with my children. And what made it worse was that I had such a short time to make things right with them before departing. I stayed at the shelter for four days. By the time I left, I only have three days before it was time to report to Marianna Florida to begin serving my prison time. And I still had no idea what I was going to do with my children. "
God would set up divine appointments along the way to prove His goodness. In discovering the folly of their ways would come the greatest discovery – accepting Christ and allowing Him full reign and access. This was an awesome read, I read it in between breaks and lunch in 3 days, no reading once I got home. What these two endured and survived is nothing short of a miracle. When you think you're going through something, just pick this book up and read this....I've told anybody that would listen about this book. I love to read but this is a MUST read book! LOVED IT TWINS!!!!!!

These ladies share an incredible story of a journey to the depths of almost destruction and how they later turned it into a journey towards triumph. This should be required reading for every teenage girl. Everyone has bars that must be broken through....some are in the mind created by our own thinking and others are physical and created by our own decisions. Marisa and Alisha share how they broke through. Their powerful story reminds you that failure is never permanent nor fatal for those who have made the decision to never give up or give in. Get this book and share it with your ladies group, your girl's group, and the soon-to-be ladies in your family. And if you ever get a chance, reach out to the ladies and invite them to come speak to your group or organization. Despite being successful women now, they both still make the time to inform, inspire, and educate the people in their community about what it takes to "break thru the bars" because they are still breaking them down everyday.
