With a broken heart surprisingly filled with gratitude, Ashley continued to write through her loss to provide an intimate account of the grieving process one day at a time. About the Author
Ashley Hertzog Embry has a poetic soul. Born and raised in Newmanstown, Pennsylvania, she dreamed of becoming an author when she grew up. Always the family documentarian, in first grade she wrote “All About My Family & Me,” a short story chronicling the lives of her loved ones. Decades later she released her first book, “Letters To My Papa,” a much longer story chronicling the lives of her loved ones. In 2001, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to attend Belmont University and pursue her love of lyrics and the melodies that bring them to life. She continues to reside in Music City, working full-time in music publishing. Embry leaves no day unaccounted for by capturing moments in photographs and collecting memories in her personal journals. When she isn’t writing or creating handcrafted gifts in her home study, you can find her living the family life with her adoring husband, Mason.

A poignant and beautifully written story of this close-knit family's tragic loss and how they have persevered through the grieving process illustrating that with great loss, there is still great hope to hold on to even in the darkest of hours. Ms. Embry puts you in each moment with her through the bewilderment of her father's brain injury to the cautious optimism of his prognosis and road to recovery to the devastation of facing a future without him then struggling to accept the "new normal;" balancing the joys of finding true love with regret at the milestones that she won't be able to share with her beloved Papa except in spirit. This story will resonate with anyone who has suffered the loss of a loved one and is either working through or has gone through the stages of grief. We never fully accept the loss of someone we loved deeply, but as long as we hold on to the love we received from them and the love we gave to them, they are never far from our hearts.

Settle yourself in for a few hours because it will be that long before you are able to put this book down. Beginning with the first letter, you feel you are a part of this family as they end a time of Thanksgiving and celebration and move right into a season punctuated with raw emotions ranging from alarm to urgency to fear to longing to hope to relief and very quickly back to fear, dread, loss, and grief. You find yourself mesmerized by Mrs. Embry's ability to meticulously describe the intricate details of the days and minutes spent at her father's bedside during his life and death struggle. You are equally captivated as she succinctly shares the rawness of the emotions felt by herself and her mother and brother as they run the emotional gauntlet that the next several weeks demands of them. Finally, you experience relief as you see a rebirth of hope and the promise of a fulfilling future. Settle in and enjoy! You will be glad you did!
