About the Author
Fay Picardi is an internationally published poet and Fulbright scholar whose volumes of poetry, Nana’s Sunday Dance and The Stones Speak, can be found on Amazon. Simonetta is the author’s first prose work. In preparation for writing Simonetta’s story, Fay spent months studying Italian, traveling throughout Tuscany and Liguria and doing research at the Biblioteca degli Uffizi and the Biblioteca Nationale di Firenze.

Fay Picardi's book "Simonetta" Will Transport You

A Teen's Fantasy?

Although the story revealed some interesting notes on Botticelli's friendship with Simonetta, it did not seem realistic that most notable men of the town were controlled by the whims of a teenager despite her ethereal beauty. The town even accepted the love affair between a young married woman from an important family (Vespucci) to the most important family (Medici) in the area. More explanation of the accepted nuances of romance of the times need to be inserted or it makes it seem like idylls of a teenage fantasy.

This is such beautifully written, wonderfully researched book

This is such beautifully written, wonderfully researched book. I loved it from beginning to end. The court gossip, the fashion of the day the glimpse into a world of beauty and elegance that can only be imagined but yet a love story about a very young girl. I did not know anything about the woman in the famous Botticelli painting, Venus rising from the sea but I am so glad Ms. Picardi brought her to life for us.
