I have always wondered how those Israelites could be so blind to all the great things God was doing for them in the time of Moses. Surely I myself would never have forgotten last week's miracle just because a new crisis appeared - of course I would have been a Joshua or a Caleb!
James Lucas' book causes me to realize that God accomplishes His works in a gloriously quiet manner, and that His works are visible only to one who looks with eyes opened by the Spirit. We can see what we want to see, or we can choose the way of the cross and see what God wants us to see. This is an imperfectly written story, the more beautiful because is reflects an imperfect man's journey and God's perfect faithfulness in guiding his children home.
