I don’t claim to mention all possibilities of how to get reviews, but only those that worked for me. I am the author and producer of the picture book series “Oliver and Jumpy” which includes 20 ebooks and 10 paperbacks.

Packed with helpful information for self-pub and small-press authors

This pamphlet-length e-book is full of great suggestions, and I endorse the author's approach to soliciting book reviews, because it worked on me, though in a roundabout way.
As one of Amazon's top reviewers (though I hate to admit that, because I don't want people flooding me with review requests). I got an email from the author asking if I would review his children's book. Here's the deal -- I have access to the free galleys (also called Advance Reading Copies) that mainstream publishers send to reviewers and bookstores. Those are actual print versions, so if I'm going to read an emerging author or take a chance on a new release, I read one of those hard copies. Sadly, the quality of writing in most self-published projects is rather amateur compared to books that come through traditional print publishers.
Furthermore, while I wanted to like my e-reader and gave it the ol' college try, I never enjoyed the experience, and it never seemed like "real" reading to me. I finally got rid of the e-reader altogether. For these two reasons -- e-book versions, and amateur writing quality -- at this point, I ignore 99% of the unsolicited emails I get asking for book reviews.
I wasn't interested in reviewing the author's children's book; however, Mr. Stejskal added a link at the end of his email cross-promoting THIS title. I was quite curious about what he might have to say about reviewers such as myself, and the e-book was on a "free promotion," so I downloaded it and read it in about 15 minutes.
The illustrated cover title is "How to Find Book Reviewers," with the subtitle "How to get Reviews the Easy Way." While it may be simple enough, there's there's nothing "easy" about this method -- it is a LOT of work. He gives the steps, but it will require dedication and ongoing effort on the part of the author. This would be a good read for self-published authors BEFORE they publish a book, just to have a realistic sense of the effort it takes to make a book stand out in today's saturated market.
This author has generously compiled the results of his experience, and I would think self-published and small-press authors would find the regular 99¢ price a bargain. Don't let the length fool you: this little booklet may be short, but it's concentrated with tips and a cohesive plan for promoting one's book via positive reviews.

great advice

I found Werner's book fascinating as a reviewer. Werner contacted me a while ago and I had two reasons for saying yes to his books, number one, he was so polite about it, and two, it's important to keep reviewing every day to maintain a rating, and children's books are a good way to do it. And of course, I have written a couple of children's books, so I enjoy reading them.
Everything Werner tells you in the book is excellent advice. I get hounded for reviews, and rarely say yes, just because I don't have time, or it's a product I wouldn't use so I mostly pass. I also buy books because it seems fair, and children's book are usually pretty inexpensive, and because I like to help out authors(only the polite ones).
Since I do have my own books out there, I'm going to use the links that Werner has put in the back of this book, and I'm going to take his advice on how to get reviews. Amazingly, the Top Reviewer's forum on Amazon, are not full of helpful people and they don't want to solicited for reviews. I'd advise you to never go near them seeking reviews. It's something Werner didn't bring up, but maybe he's never visited the forum. It's a dead end for seeking reviewers from what I've seen.
There are reviewers out there who enjoy doing certain genres of books, so it really helps if someone asks you to review a book that similar to the ones you've already reviewed, stick with them.
This is a very helpful book, and I'm glad Werner brought it to my notice. I'd recommend it to all authors looking for reviewers. All great advice which I too will use.

Helps Solve a Problem all Authors Face

If you are a self-published author you probably know the power that reviews have on the sales life of your book. I didn’t say good or bad reviews because just having reviews is a win for most authors. Getting readers to care enough about your book to spend the time to organize their thoughts and share them on Amazon can seem just about impossible at times.
Luckily authors like Werner Stejskal take the time to share what they have learned going out and putting in the work to find reviewers and get them to write reviews. This booklet is short, to the point and worth the half hour to hour it takes to read. I’ve done plenty of research on getting reviews and had never seen his tip on using LinkedIn to get reviews. That tip alone was worth reading this book to me. His list of resources was also quite helpful.
The beauty of short books like this is they solve a very specific problem and this book accomplishes that in fine fashion.
