An underwhelming book on the "rim of the Catholic Worker Movement"

This book is mixture of memoir, "social consciousness," and psychobabble; it consists of articles published in the Los
Angeles Catholic Worker paper, "The Catholic Agitator," over a seven-year period in the 1980s. Jonathan Parfrey, founder of the Orange County, California, Catholic Worker, puts it succinctly in the book's Foreword: "Toni belongs to the literary genre of modern confessionalism, whose leading figure is the poet Robert Lowell. Toni, like Lowell, addresses public events through events of the mind. Lowell once documented his attendance at a Vietnam War protest by talking about his 'leg-and-arch-cramps' and 'cowardly foolhardy heart.' That sounds like Toni." (p. ix)
Funny that Robert Lowell is mentioned. This reviewer attended a reading by Lowell of his poems in the 1960s and exited as he started a particularly nasty one, which did not seem confessional (it was about rats).
If Parfrey's description had been available, the dollars wasted on purchasing this book would have been saved.
