You Won't Put it Down

From page one, I was drawn into the protagonist's intense and complex journey, to the point of rooting for his recovery as if he were personally known to me. The author's thorough research into the science and medicine of this rare condition is expertly interwoven with her obvious commitment to telling the gripping story of the physical, emotional and spiritual challenges of the character. You will read through uninterrupted until the end!

A Gripping Story

Ben Luna is a successful physically fit middle aged man who suddenly contracts a rare autoimmune disease and finds himself in a hospital bed, unable to move. Though he is frightened about his uncertain future, and over and over again wants to give up,his emotional and mental strength, as well as the constant care of a few friends and family, help pull him through.
To me, the biggest achievement of this novel is Ms. Kunysz's ability to create a heart-wrenching and fast-paced novel about a man who spends a major part of the story flat on his back and paralyzed. The author does a great job of making the reader want to cheer on Ben Luna as he goes through his ordeal. Dalton Trumbo's Johnny Got His Gun comes to mind.
Another of the author's accomplishments was her ability to weave medical facts (this is an actual disease) into the fabric of the story without making it read like a medical text.
I highly recommend A Free Trip to Hell.

Vonnie Kunysz' Free Trip to Hell is a well written ...

Vonnie Kunysz' Free Trip to Hell is a well written story of one man's journey though the ravages of Guillain-Barre syndrome. Ben Luna contracted the syndrome after an emotional tragedy and slowly fought his way back to normalcy. The story is presented though Ben’s thoughts and memories. Ben never gave up using determination and faith to drive himself forward and past the obstacles of his slowly improving paralysis and the disappointments of his former life. The book is an uplifting tale of overcoming tremendous odds.
