About the Author
Ron Shaw is an Atlanta, Georgia, native who currently resides in Gwinnett County, Georgia, with his wife and daughter. He attended Roosevelt High School in Atlanta and continued his education at Mercer University in Macon, Georgia for two years. Ron met his future wife in Atlanta after his second year at Mercer and transferred his junior year to Georgia State University. In 1973, with new responsibilities, he became an Atlanta Police Officer while attending college full time. Ron attained a BA degree in English Literature from Georgia State University in 1974. He retired from the Atlanta Police Department in 1996 after a personally satisfying and fulfilling career. Ron's other works are; SEVEN FISH TREE, THE YELLOW BUS BOYS, TRANSMUTATION: THE LIFE OF A TWISTED COP, RED, his CRAMPED QUARTERS SERIES composed of MARY'S TRUNK, MARY'S JOURNEY BEGINS, MARY'S JOURNEY CONTINUES, and PAUL'S STORY, a short story, THE DEAD AND THE DYING within the horror anthology DARK TALES, and AROUND THE CAMPFIRE: TWO BADGE-TOTERS' TALES.

Boys will be boys

First read Yellow to really appreciate Blue. The same cast but different location. The only senior on this trip worth noting is Baby Whale. His older brother and thugs aren’t on this ride. So there’s less scamming and more sight-seeing. Two of the boys who are playing horn dog, are given a stern warning. One pervert, with the help of the gang and a few high jinxes, is sent back to Atlanta on the Grey Hound bus. But that doesn’t stop Ronnie from playing discrete Casanova with a guide. This is a mature Ronnie Shaw who is given more responsibilities. He’s the map reader. He’s also the voice of the gang. He soon discovers a foul mouth boy from the Capitol, and he’s welcomed with open arms to the back seat where there’s lots of shoulder punches and goof balling.
There’s lots of sight-seeing. It’s a whirlwind trip to Canada and back. Ronnie’s memory of events, almost five decades after they happened is truly amazing. The book is a tribute to the good folks of Atlanta, and to TJ, a mentor, who showed Ronnie his true potential. Carl opens up in this book. Some things don’t change. But when Ronnie ends this trip, he walks ten feet high. The world is his oyster. TJ wasn’t half wrong about this boy. Ronnie really had to earn these trips with perfect attendance at school. Now he’s paid back his fair in full. Yellow and Blue was the outcome.

On the bus, boys!

Yellow Bus Boys is a poignant, sad, happy ( especially when eating hamburgers & fries ) story of youth. Blue is a 2nd trip of these boys from Atlanta's working class area. If you glimpse into that big inside mirror above the driver's head, you just might see yourself! A memoir of a ghetto boy intelligent enough to start his exit from the Atlanta housing project which would kill his spirit, if not his body, if he remained. At the end, as Ronnie is walking back home through the project, his glimpse of the world outside the ghetto is sublimely surreal.
